McDonald played with too much baseline firepower and overcame a significant leg injury to somehow defeat Holt in a wild, three-set win. McDonald took multiple MTO’s in the third set due to a right leg/knee injury and was barely moving during the third set. McDonald led by a set and a break but struggled to end the second and was dominated in the tiebreak. Despite struggling to move, McDonald somehow went unbroken on serve in the decider and went for broke in the tiebreak which proved to be successful. McDonald hit an incredible 35 forehand winners and found a way to win despite hitting over twice as many unforced errors as the more solid Holt.
