Yibing Wu rallied from a set and a break down to beat Daniil Medvedev in just over three hours (3:11 hr). The Chinese wildcard struggled with the match-up at times, with the Russian repeatedly forcing him to play one extra ball, but he kept going for his shots and was rewarded for staying in the fight. Yibing Wu took an MTO for a right shoulder issue midway through the second set and looked finished, but Medvedev faltered when serving for the match. The #2 seed hadn’t faced a break point until then but threw in three of his seven double faults and was broken. He also squandered a *5–4 lead in the second set tiebreak after rallying from 0–4 down. From there, Wu continued with his bold baseline hitting and powered through to complete a remarkable turnaround. Medvedev had an MTO of his own for a right elbow complaint a game before the end.
