Les Johns reports that Kern injured a finger on his throwing hand after hitting it on a defender's helmet, and coach Dave Clawson shared that he is likely to miss a good amount of spring practice, but will be ready for summer workouts and the fall. In 2023 Kern passed for 647 yards and 4 TDs, and he is competing with Louisiana Tech transfer Hank Bachmeier this season.
