Bronzetti
on her back: "My back feels a little stiff, although the painkiller made it better. It's still tense, so I'm going to get checked out now. I hope it's nothing serious." Piccari on Bronzetti’s back issue: "For a set and a half, she was too much in control, then at 4-1, the other player also showed signs of overthinking and helped us out. It shouldn't be a big problem; at most, it's a contracture that usually goes away in a few days. But here we'll have to see if it will cause problems for the next match."

rolled her ankle on match point
Andreescu after beating Krejcikova despite injuring her left ankle at the end: “At the end there I got very lucky. But yeah, it’s very unfortunate what happened, obviously. Uh, yeah, I don’t know what to say… I’m just super happy that I was able to pull it through, and it was thanks to [the crowd].” --- Andreescu
came back from 0–3 in the second to beat a mostly erratic Krejcikova in straight sets, but needed significant luck to close out the win after appearing to sprain her left ankle 2 points from the end. Aside from the drama at the end this was a ragged match, with both playing some complex, high-caliber rallies but both also making more than their share of cheap errors. Andreescu managed to be the relatively consistent player in rallies and also the one using a greater variety of unpredictable tactics. Krejcikova struggled to defend her second serve and converted a mere 1 of 13 break points. Serving for the match, Andreescu took a bad split-step and rolled her ankle, then sat down at the back of the court and screamed. The umpire and Krejcikova brought her ice, and then the physio and doctor arrived, helped her to her chair, and taped up her ankle during an MTO. The Canadian appeared to be in pain during her service motion, but the Czech missed consecutive second-serve returns, and the match was over. Andreescu limped across the court to give her post-match interview, during which she momentarily burst into tears. Commentary: “Pretty ugly match.” Andreescu 17w 32ue; Krejcikova 15w 39ue. Andreescu 6/3 6/4.
